Assignment Prompt and Purpose of Assignment:
Synthesis is a necessary tool to have in your writer’s toolbox because it allows you to integrate outside information (sources) into your own work. For this assignment, you will follow a controversial news issue. You will need to work with a variety of sources and points of view. The goal is to be able to interpret the issue at hand and explain it without presenting any personal bias or opinion. You will need to collect a solid data sample in order to see how the story changes and explore the arguments presented from multiple viewpoints. You may chose a topic that is “hot button” issue currently OR you can go back to previously released stories (for example: 9/11, Trump’s Election, etc.) as long as you can find copies of the material (that is to say, an event that has occurred after the rise of the internet, if you need assistance with this, please talk to me as soon as possible).
You will be graded based on your ability to do the following:
Explain basic facts about the issue
Write the arguments from all sides of the issue
Integrate all sources into the paper
Analyze the multiple viewpoints of an issue
Assignment Instructions:
A completed Topic Proposal must be submitted and approved before this assignment may begin.
Research multiple news sources, such as newspaper articles, magazine and newspaper features, editorials, and blog posts from numerous perspectives.
Choose at least six (6) sources to use in your paper from a variety of viewpoints. At least three (3) must come from official news publications and at least three (3) must be written from different political viewpoints.
Save your sources because you must turn in a complete works cited pageLinks to an external site. with your final paper. *Failure to attach/comply may result in a failure for the assignment, failure for the course, or disciplinary action from the college (including a behavior report filed for plagiarism)
Input the source information into the synthesis matrix.
Look for areas where sources overlap and/or differ. You will want to focus on these areas.
After you have collected your sources and put them into the matrix, write a paper that analyzes and synthesizes this information for your audience.

Formatting and Style Requirements
Essay must have a minimum of 1,000 words and be uploaded from a document file. Words on the Works Cited page do not count towards the required word count. Use the standard MLA formatLinks to an external site.: 12-point font, doubled-spaced, Times New Roman, one-inch margins all around. Please include an original title in the center at the top of the essay. A full works cited page with six sources are required.
Pretty much I have to have a synthesis matrix which is the first file ill upload which has like 3 themes and then 6 different authors/articles that tackle the overall topic. The topic i chose was abortion. It must be written without opinion because she just wants us to write about how the articles/authors tackle the topic and its 3 different concepts ( i chose like Age of the mother, health of the mother and Is abortion murder for my 3 different concepts but I never ended up filling out the matrix so you can change it i guess) and their like word use and stuff and like it needs 2 left leaning articles 2 articles which are less biased and 2 right leaning articles and idk just finding the differences and middle ground that they share i guess stuff like that you probably know how to do this assignment better than me so do your thing. I would use allsides balanced search to help find different viewpoints and stuff but idk ur the professional thank u sm. I said political science cus i feel like its lowkey political but its just a english 111 class so its not all that complicated.
