Avoid limited responses such as ”Everything looks good,” or “I didn’t see anything that should be changed.” If you liked something in the essay, state this but also explain why it was so great. Do the same with areas that need improvement–briefly explain the issue (but don’t make corrections). Help the writer make improvements to the essay by giving quality feedback.
Give specific elements that are effective and as well as elements that need improvement. Your feedback can include comments about an effective point, a powerful attention-getter, and a compelling closing, etc. Your constructive feedback might include suggestions to add evidence and examples to a paragraph. Ex: The thesis can be improved by creating a complex structure and stating a counterargument.
You will be graded on the usefulness and value of your feedback. You should address each of the sections to earn full credit for your peer review.
Note: Remember that you are not a professional editor, so you are not fixing the writer’s essay. Do not try to correct the essay. Your task, from a reader’s perspective, is to note writing elements and strategies that are effective as well as areas of improvement.
