Throughout the semester, as you observe a class in an early childhood setting, you will carefully observe the interactions between the teacher and students, the interactions among the students, and the ways in which students are using language. To focus your observations, you will select ONE focus student. During these observations, you will write observational field notes documenting these interactions. These interactions will be data that you will analyze to write a case study report. The goal of this assignment is to make connections between theories of language and literacy learning addressed in the course and your observations from the classroom.
In the case study report, you will:
describe the learning context (the classroom)
describe your focal student
identify key observations you made regarding how the focus student is using language and developing their language use according to NYS standards
