This assignment will focus on learning how to create a pie chart, a Histogram, and a boxplot. For the last two tasks, you will choose the best way to visualize the data and then create the graph. Each task is worth 10 points. See the attached Excel document at the bottom of this assignment for the data sets. Each task’s data set is separated into it’s own sheet.
Task 1: Pie charts can be used to visualize categorical data. To create a pie chart, you need a well-defined population that can be split into pieces. For this question, you will look at the United States population divided by race and use the provided data to create a pie chart. You will create a pie chart with a title, legend, data labels and a source. Follow the video tutorials and instructions from the instructional materials for creating a pie chart in Excel. Copy the chart into a Word document and then type “Source: US Census Bureau” under the graph.
Task 2: Histograms can be used to visualize numerical data. To create a histogram, you must have numerical data. Histograms will be created using Excel or StatCrunch. Create a histogram using the provided dataset and following the video tutorials and instructions from the instructional materials. Paste the histogram in the same Word document and then type “Source: Unknown” under the graph.
Task 3: Boxplots can also be used to visualize numerical data. They can be used to compare two or more groups of data. Use the provided data to create two boxplots comparing Sqft grouped by location in Excel or StatCrunch. Paste the boxplot in the same Word document and then type “Source: Unknown” under the graph. If using StatCrunch, here is a direct link to the data for Task 3. (Make sure you are signed in)
Tasks 4 & 5: Make a graph that best visualizes each of the two provided datasets. Be sure to include details such as a title, data labels (if applicable), x-axis and y-axis labels (if applicable), legend (if applicable), and source.
