Week Two – Discussion One: The Intelligence Cycle
Chapter 4 of your textbook discusses the intelligence cycle for state, local, and tribal law enforcement. This intelligence cycle consists of six basic components:
Planning and direction
Collection
Processing/collation
Analysis
Dissemination
Reevaluation
Take a few moments to examine this process in a critical manner. Identify what you believe is the most important step in the intelligence analysis process and provide justification as to your selection. What makes the step you have identified more important than the others? Can the most important component of the intelligence analysis process change depending on target or objectives? If one of the steps of the intelligence analysis process were eliminated, which one do you think would be the ‘weakest link’ and have the least impact on the overall process if it were to be eliminated?
