1. Choose one significant change that the opera Dido & Aeneas (Purcell/Tate) makes to
Virgil’s Aeneid (e.g. a new character, a change in a character’s behavior, a change to the
plot, etc.), and explain why that change is important or interesting: how does it affect our
understanding of the overall Dido/Aeneas story?
2. Whose argument in favor of sex is more persuasive: Donne’s (in “The Flea”) or Marvell’s
(in “To His Coy Mistress”)? Explain.
3. Would it be possible to do a movie version of Oroonoko today? If so, explain what the
biggest challenge(s) would be and how you might overcome them. If not, why not?
