Individual and social change are central to the social work task. Creative arts provide a means for both self-expression and promoting voice and participation. Drawing from your learning on the course, discuss the potential of the creative arts to inform social work engagement with a particular group who may need the support of social work. In this essay you should choose a particular group to focus on so that you can be specific about how the arts/ creative approaches might meet needs or develop strengths (e.g. minoritised groups including disabled, families living in poverty, people with mental health difficulties, those with alcohol or substance misuse issues, people with an experience of crime/ abuse/ or some other trauma, elders etc.). Reference should be made to relevant literature to support the discussion. don′t do an introduction and conclusion, just do 4 bodies of the essay
here is a suggested outline:
Middle section – Describe the minoritised or marginalized group who will be the focus of your essay. Use some research or literature to describe issues of need and/or strength that can be supported/ healed/ etc. through creative and artistic methods. When thinking about these needs you may want to consider the role and definition of social work. You should then go on to describe in detail how particular creative or artistic methods can be used with this groups. Again, you must support your discussion with reference to literature or research. You may also want to refer to projects you have visited or researched. (1,100 words aprox)
