Your topic— This is a refined/narrowed/specific topic generated from your proposal. the topic is The Impact of Technology on Society.
The title of your speech/presentation— Be sure to think creatively. Your title should be catchy and work to generate interest from your possible audience. This shouldn’t just be your topic; rather, it should capture the essence of your topic in a creative way.
Objective— Think of this as the elevator pitch. What is it that you hope to achieve through presenting this speech? What do you plan to cover and how do you plan to do so? This should really answer that “so what” question that you encountered earlier on in the semester.
Outline the sections of your speech— What are the main points that you’re focusing on/making? Approximately how much time do you plan to spend on each section of your speech? What are some of your claims? How are you supporting these? These do not have to be written in great detail— bullet points are fine.
Engagement— What are the different modes that you plan to use to help spark engagement throughout your speech/presentation? For example, music, video, images, PowerPoint slides, guests/actors, etc. How do you plan to use these and why? You must strategically incorporate the use of these at least twice throughout your speech.
(AT LEAST) 2 Speech Styles— This is clearly a long speech, which naturally creates dilemmas around engagement, so you need to think of ways to keep your audience interested. Using multiple speaking styles helps to keep your presentation/speech interesting. For example, you probably would tune out if someone was only demonstrating something for 10 minutes (we’ve all seen those terrible infomercials). But, if you were advocating for a particular change by providing information in a fun and engaging way, that would help maintain your audience’s focus. To then shift your focus on demonstrating something related to what you’re advocating for, would work to draw in your audience’s interests even further.
Reference Page— This should include references for your 3 scholarly sources from your annotated bibliography, as well as AT LEAST 2 other sources (websites, videos, book chapters, etc.) that you will reference during your speech. If you are showing a video clip during your speech, that should be cited. If you are showing a graphic capturing some statistic from a website, that should be cited. While the minimum is asking for at least 2 additional sources, I expect that most of you will have pretty full reference pages consisting of several more than a total of 5 references (3 from bib and 2 additional).
