Write an analysis of one of the readings we’ve encountered so far: – Hillbilly Elegy Chapter 11 – Lisa Pruitt’s “What Hillbilly Elegy Reveals…” – Sean Blanda’s “The Other Side is Not Dumb” – Ben Adler’s “Banning Plastic Bags is Good for the World, Right? Not So Fast.” If you don’t like/feel led to analyze any of these, you can choose your own article, but you need to send it over for approval. If you choose to include summary, your summary should only be about 30% of the total; no need to over-summarize. Practice some of the summary/paraphrasing skills we used this week in class. Requirements: A specific topic: don’t just “analyze Lisa Pruitt’s article,” but analyze Lisa Pruitt’s tone, or her bias, or her perspective, or her language choice. You should have a thesis somewhere that makes this clear. This is the most integral part of the analysis–you cannot analyze the entire article. Use the tips, tricks and writing rules we’ve discussed so far this semester 1-2 pages (double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman font) with MLA heading. Try not to go more than 2 full pages. In-text citations (more info below) and appropriate reference page Notes: Since this is a single-source essay, after you say “ARTICLE TITLE by PERSON does ____” the first time, you don’t need to introduce the article again. You can then just say “article/author also says ___”, and don’t forget your in-text citation after facts/opinions from the article (Author Last Name, Page #) [MLA] or (Author Last Name, Year) [APA, though APA is more complex and has other possibilities. With APA, you only need a page number with a quote, not a paraphrase or summary.] Both ways, the period should go after the citation. See the Purdue OWL for more details, especially if you choose APA. If you do choose to use quotes from the article, please don’t use more than 2 here. The rest should practice the summarization techniques–or paraphrasing–discussed in TSIS and practiced in class. Don’t forget to adhere to these writing standardsLinks to an external site. discussed in class!
