These writing assignments are designed to help you cultivate a growing appreciation for how the cultural objects we study over the semester respond to each other and participate in larger conversations within the Western cultural tradition. The Text you will write the 2 paragraphs on is Merry Shelley’s Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus. #1 Define and describe the writer’s project. In 400-450 words, answer the following questions about your selected text: Who writes the text? What genre is the text written in (novel, letter, etc.)? Who are they writing to? Why are they writing? Provide at least one quote to support your discussion of why they write. #2 “Yes, and…”: Extend the writer’s project Choose a piece of art or music from the visual arts and music columns of the syllabus that reflects on a theme shared with your core text. The Art piece I want you to use is Rembrandt, The Anatomy Lesson (1632). In 400-450 words, explain how the piece of art or music builds on a theme that you identified in Writing Task #1.
