The assignment is to attend a live in-person or virtual (via Zoom, WebEx, etc., not chat-
must be video/live) group. This assignment will help students gain insight into different types of
groups that occur in public spaces and similarities and differences in clinic or treatment settings.
Each student is required to attend one full meeting (AA, AL ANON, parenting, any outpatient
group that will let you attend, etc.). To maintain group privacy, students must not take notes
during your group visit. If attending a live in-person group, students must
adhere to safety guidelines. Finding a meeting: Meetings are typically found online. Meetings that are listed as “Closed” are
meetings that are not open to the general public and do not allow drop-in visits. If the meeting is
not a 12-step group, it is recommended that students call ahead to confirm that it is acceptable for
you to observe. Attending a meeting should be free and students should not be asked for payment
to attend any meeting. If asked, please do not attend the meeting. Use the link provided to start
the search. This list provides helpful suggestions, students are not limited to this list. Self Help
