Based on what you have learned in class this week, define tangible cultural heritage and write a brief summary of why saving tangible cultural heritage matters.
In your reading for this assignment, you encounter a group known as the Monuments Men, the subject of a famous movie. These were, however, real people who did real things during World War II. Based on your reading, and citing details from that reading and your own research, answer the following questions:
2. Who were the true Monuments Men and what did they do during World War II?
3. Choose one artifact that they worked to recover:
What was the artifact? (Identify it by name and provide a brief descriiption.)
Where was the artifact originally from?
Share at least two details about why the artifact was culturally significant. (Consider that lives were risked to recover it, meaning that it must’ve meant something to the culture it came from and the world at large as well.)
4. Read through the List of World Heritage in Danger at http://whc.unesco.org/en/danger/Links to an external site. and choose one contemporary example of tangible cultural heritage in danger. Note: You must choose a tangible cultural heritage site. To do this, look for a red diamond next to the area on the list as seen on the Legend:

State the cultural site you have chosen from UNESCO’s List of World Heritage in Danger.
Provide a brief descriiption of the site (where it is located, what it consists of, and the people who built it).
Briefly explain its cultural significance.
Why is the site endangered?
Based on what you have learned, why is it important to protect it?
What, if anything, is being done to preserve it?
