Learning from colleagues is an important way to continue to evolve as an educator. You can expand the collection of tools in your toolbox by coupling your classroom experiences with your peers’ lessons. For this assessment, you will use the Effective Teaching Methods Job Aid you created in Week 3 to gather data as you interview and observe the selected teacher. Classroom Observation: Complete your job aid by adding the following information in 350–525 words: The descriptions the teacher provides for the components How do they include the components in their lesson plans? Identify and describe your view of the components in action during your classroom observation. Add these to each of the components that you previously researched and described: Creative Thinking Critical Thinking Supportive Learning Environments Lesson Design Lesson Differentiation Student Engagement Teacher Interview: Include key suggestions from the teacher of behaviors that would foster and support each of the 6 components during your lesson. Interview the teacher you observed or another teacher. Ask them how they incorporate: Direct instructional strategies Indirect strategies Inquiry-based learning Differentiated instruction Ask them how students respond to each. Ask them what outcomes and responses they expected when they used them. Ask them for examples of how different students responded to each strategy. What worked? What did not work? What surprised the teacher? Include the teacher’s description and use of a variety of assessment strategies. Write a 350- to 525-word analysis of behaviors and interactions that promote a successful learning experience for students. Compare the teacher’s direct and indirect application of the strategies. Assess the effectiveness of the teacher’s methods for including each component during the lesson. Summarize what you will apply in your lesson plan. Summarize what you would do differently.
