Identify a professional sport stadium or an arena that was built in the United States within the past fifteen years and was at least partially funded by the city, county, and/or municipality in which it resides. The facility should have cost at least $100 million to use for this assignment. Once you have identified the facility you will then research how it was funded and answer the questions below. For your response please list each question followed by your answer to that question. You must also include a reference page in APA format that lists all the sources you used to find your information. If you fail to include a reference page you will not receive credit for the assignment. You must email me your idea and receive confirmation from me before you begin so that each student is researching a different facility.
What is the name and location of the facility? Who is the main tentant(s)? (5 pts)
How much was the total construction cost for the facility? (5 pts)
How much money did the city/state contribute to the total cost? (5 pts)
Was a vote required to approve the city/state contribution to the project? If so, who voted (e.g. public, council, legislature, etc.) and what was the result? (10 pts)
How did the city and/or state pay for their portion of the project? (e.g. sales tax, bonds, etc.) (15 pts)
How much money did the sport organization that is using the facility contribute to the total cost? (5 pts)
How did the sport organization pay for their portion of the project? (e.g. PSLs, league loan, etc.) (15 pts)
Have the naming rights to the facility been sold? If so, what are the details of the agreement, including how the money was distributed? (10 pts)
Did any other entities contribute to the cost of the project? If so, how much did they contribute? (Be sure to account for the entire cost.) (5 pts)
Who owned the stadium once it was completed? If there is a lease agreement, what are the details? (5 pts)
Based on current conditions, who do you think has benefitted most from the funding structure and why? (5 pts)
Based on what you learned in class and while gathering this information, explain whether or not your feelings have changed regarding the use of public funds for professional facilities and why. (15 pts)
