Think about the topic of the module and how it relates to the Quality of Life theme. Review the posted lecture. Read the assigned articles. Watch the assigned films. Select an additional source that expands on a concept explored in the assigned sources. Write a response paper analyzing how these sources are connected. Papers will be graded according to the following criteria (including an approximate percentage each section is worth):
Give a very brief (one paragraph addressing both films) summary of the films covered in the Note the major plot points and message of the film. DO NOT copy summaries from websites. This paragraph should NOT take up your entire first page. ~15%
Analyze and discuss how the films illustrate the topic/theme of the module through the use of specific concepts and ideas from the articles. ~55%
Note how certain aspects of the film’s plot, acting, dialogue, or filming/editing techniques emphasize points that relate back to the theme(s) of the module, as laid out by concepts from the articles.
Ask yourself questions like: what specific line, scene, or plot point from the film illustrates or demonstrates a specific concept, term, or idea from the article(s)? Does the film expand upon aspects of the article(s)? Does the film contradict something you read? BE SPECIFIC and thorough in your examples and analysis. THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANTPORTION OF YOUR PAPER; IT IS THE MAIN GOAL OF THESE ASSIGNMENTS. It is worth the most amount of points.
Conclude your discussion with a critique centered around how successful the films were in illustrating themodule’s themes and concepts as related to the idea of “Quality of Life.” ~15%
Meet formatting requirements, including: page requirement, follow requested citation format, proofread and edit for grammar and spelling, and follow other basic academic writing conventions. ~15%
All papers must meet the following criteria to be eligible for full credit:
Must be three (3) FULL pages of text in length.
Double-spaced, 12 point standard
The Works Cited page does not count towards page requirement.
Must include the two (2) assigned articles, the two (2) assigned films, and one (1) additional article of your choice from an ACADEMIC PEER-REVIEWED JOURNAL.
NO encyclopedia/Wikipedia entries, blog posts, magazines, newspapers, webpages, videos, etc.
Must include in-text citations AND a Works Cited/References page listing your sources at the end.
NO footnotes or endnotes.
