Sources and Evidence
In your analysis, you will need to support each claim you make with textual evidence. You
should use both direct quotes and paraphrases, and you should cite all your sources correctly in
the text as well as prepare a Works Cited page to accompany the essay.
Format
The final paper should be approximately 4-5 pages (approx. 1000-1250 words), using MLA
formatting. Include a word count at the end of the essay, then a Works Cited page. Standard
formatting in Times New Roman, 12 pt. font, double-spaced with 1-inch margins is
required. Be sure to include a title on your paper.
Grading
For this assignment, you will be evaluated on the following:
20% Proper formatting and length, including adhering to MLA style, following directions
20% Engaging and interesting introduction to hook the reader with sufficient background of the
problem and a CLEAR and complete thesis statement that provides your purpose and claims as
to what the main cause(s) of the problem is
20% Well developed body paragraphs with sophisticated transitions, clear topic sentences,
proper citation of incorporated sources and persuasive rhetoric
20% concise and non-repetitive concluding paragraph reiterating the thesis and main causes you
claim to be most appealing for the problem, as well as suggestions for ameliorating the issue
20% Varied and sophisticated vocabulary, coherent flow, reasonable claims and sufficient
evidence from the sources
