Imagine you work for a university communications office and are trying to get media coverage for a new research study. Prepare a press release that describes the study, its rationale, and its significance in language that is interesting and accessible to a non-academic audience.
The goal of this assignment is to demonstrate your comprehension of communication research studies and ability to explain it clearly to others. You will receive instruction on how to prepare a press release in your writing workshop, and there are three different university communications offices
Format: Press releases have a distinctive format, and you are expected to conform to that format. Your releases should have one-inch margins, be single-spaced, and total 400-450 words each. You should also include contact information, a release date and dateline, and a headline — none of these count toward your word count total. Include a final word count at the end of the release (after the ###).
Topic: Your press release will be about the assigned reading by Jones et al. (2019), entitled “The impact of mindfulness on empathy, active listening, and perceived provisions of emotional support.” (this article is attached below)
Quotes: A note on quotations: You may quote directly from the research article or imagine that you have spoken directly with the study’s authors and create a “quotation” that explains the significance of the study in one of their voices. Do not include more than one quotation in your release.
