Question-Explore how the writer uses language and structure to present ideas about isolation in the threetexts. Still I Rise, Story of an Hour, and Disabled. What is isolation?
– poetry and prose
– 3 poems
1) still I rise by Maya Angelou 2)story of an hour by Kate choppin
3) disabled by Wilfred Owen
Task- you have to write 1 intro 9 body paragraphs (3 for each poem) 1 conclusion.
There will be 3 paragraphs each poem. This means that THIS IS NOT A COMPARISON and must include quotes.
(Start with a subordinate clause)Acknowledge that all three texts present the theme you are focussing on. Define the theme. Briefly state how isolation is presented in each text for example-
Driven by a desire to deliver specific messages to their differing audiences, The story of a single hour by Kate Chopin, Disabled by Wilfred Owen, and Still I rise by Maya Angelou, all powerfully incorporate the theme of isolation into their work. The term ‘isolation’ refers to the act of being separated from others or being alone, and each of the three texts mentioned present a character who experiences emotions as a result of this treatment. Despite this shared presentation, the three texts utilise the idea of isolation in different ways whether this is exploring the pain isolation brings (Disabled), the freedom it can bring (The story of an hour), or how it can be presented as a part of a past that people are able to grow from and overcome (Still I rise).

Story of an hour-
Patriarchal society
discuss how “ms mallard” is referred to her marriage name (she has no personal identity) until her husband has passed away where she has been referred too as “Louise” (her real name)
