You will need to discuss a contemporary work (or a body of work) of photography in relation to 19th century photography we have studied in this course. You could choose to compare works of the same genre (portraits, landscapes, etc.); discuss different uses of photography (fine arts, documentation, etc.), or the use similar techniques (combination negatives/soft focus and digital manipulation). If in doubt about your topic please ask me.
Your paper:
Should be 5-7 pages in length; have a thesis; you need to prove your thesis with a developed argument. Your thesis should be stated clearly at the end of the first paragraph/introductory paragraph. Your conclusion may not repeat the introduction paragraph. You will cite at least two printed sources (books or articles). Please include everything all the sources you consult in your research, even if you don’t cite these. Put them in a “bibliography” section in the end.
Format:
MLA format
Double spaced, New Times Roman, 11pt, 1” margins; no separate cover page; put your name in the header. Include images you are discussing, and make sure to caption them properly (artist/title/date/medium/location (if known)).
