You are a member of a collaborative team of three people that will discuss a video of a science class. ( Script attached)
The following questions were addressed:
Question 1-What did each team member identify as a potential issue, problem, or challenge?
Answer:
-Instructions made by the teacher were not clear, and students constantly asked for clarification.
-We were concerned about Gia and the way the teacher talked to her. She was waiting for Gia to understand. Gia did not respond to the teacher’s questions.
-The teacher doesn’t talk about the materials or how many of each material they needed.
-Directions were more open.
-The teacher keeps asking: “Do you remember?” to Gia.
Question 2- What three data points, from their observations were identified as contributing to the issue, problem, or challenge?
Answer:
-Gia At 22:57 a student asked a question, and the teacher responded by asking, “What is the problem, What is the goal?” Then, at 24:34, Gia again stated that she did not understand, and the teacher responded by saying,”just do the best you can, and talk to your team.” Again, at 26:43, Gia still doesn’t get it, and the teacher appears to be annoyed. At exactly 27:00 minutes the teacher tries to make it authentic for her by giving her an example. Then, at 37:09 the teacher approaches Gia by asking her if she now understands the assignment after talking to her group. At 40:44, Gia raises her hand in confusion. The teacher then responded by saying,”I am not going to tell you.” “Talk to your group.” “Don’t sit there and sulk.” Then, at 41:50, the teacher communicated to Gia’s group by asking them to help her. Finally at 46:19, the teacher asked her if she understood, and Gia responded by saying,”Yes.”
Question 3- What actions should be taken in the classroom to solve the problem?
Answers:
-One action would be to give more precise instructions and guidance on the project.
-The teacher needs to have a little more patience.
-The teacher could have assigned her a peer tutor within her group.
-The teacher could have assigned a student to each group a role within the group.

• Post our Discussion on Monday.
• Meet on November 16, 2023 (Thursday) at 6:30 Eastern time to discuss the PowerPoint.
• Darlene will create the PowerPoint and share it with the other group members.
