Written assignment “Social cognition at the movies.”
This short paper allows you to demonstrate your active understanding of the class concepts. Specifically, you will be asked to use TWO concepts from the class and apply them to explain the thoughts, emotions, or behaviors of a character or characters in our selected movie/series. The length of the paper should be no more than three (3) pages (excluding cover page and references), double spaced. Use normal margins (1 inch), and normal font (12-points). You can be creative, but one approach would be as follows: (i) define the concepts you are using, (ii) illustrate the science behind the concepts by citing empirical work (i.e., briefly describe a study from the lectures or book that provides empirical support for the concepts), (iii) describe what’s going on in the movie/episode, and (iv) draw an analogy between the empirical work and what’s going on in the episode, discussing similarities and differences. The critical thing is to make clear to us that you understand the concepts and know how to apply them appropriately. That is, make sure to not just state that the concepts were involved, but to explain exactly HOW they were involved. Note that you should cite at least TWO empirical research findings, one for each concept. Make sure you cite references for those findings.
