We have explored and discussed the competencies proposed for the preparation of early childhood educators through NAEYC. As the need for early childhood education continues to grow, especially for the birth to age 3 category, concern over the training and education of those working in child care centers continues to be a focus of those advocating for quality child care. This has prompted the Power to the Profession initiative that defines a framework to include knowledge and competencies, qualifications, standards of practice, and compensation for early childhood educators alike. There are many features of this initiative that will have an impact on the field of early childhood education overall. We will explore these aspects and examine these elements on a deeper level. Please respond to the following questions:
1. In conclusion of your research, describe the overarching purpose of Power to the Profession.
2. Identify at least three aspects of research that you believe most significantly support the validity and initiatives included in Power to the Profession.
3. Define the initiatives within Power to the Profession that you feel have the most powerful influence on positive change for the field of early childhood education. How might these initiatives impact quality within the field?
4. What do you believe are the biggest challenges and obstacles facing the initiative Power to the Profession?
5. What role can early childhood teachers and administrators play in advocating for this initiative?
Consider the above questions and compose 3 or more paragraphs that address these questions.
