Type and double-space your paper following APA format and style. Label each section clearly and neatly. Use 1-inch margins, and number your pages. Write in complete sentences and make sure that you check spelling and punctuation. Papers should be a minimum of 10 pages. Grade depends on content, organization, and clarity of communication. Your paper should include the following:
Title Page (5 points)
The title should be concise and meaningful. Include your name and institutional affiliation.
Abstract (5 points)
The abstract summarizes, in less than 120 words, the question investigated, the research methods used, the results, and the conclusions. The abstract should be on its own page.
Introduction (approx. 3-4 pages – 10 points)
The introduction should be at least 3 pages and includes a clear statement of the problem under study, reference to relevant professional literature, an indication of theoretical propositions from which the research hypotheses are derived, and a statement of the research hypothesis. Cite publications using the form of the author and date of publication (Author, date). Give enough background information so the reader can understand the focus and purpose of the research.
Method (approx. 1-2 pages – 15 points)
The method section should be described in enough detail that the reader would be able to replicate the study in all essential details. Do not be afraid to go into detail in the methods section. At the beginning of the methods section, you should state that the study was preregistered and provide a link to the registration. Write objectively, and stay with the facts. The methods section is usually subdivided into three clearly labeled subsections (Participants, Materials, Procedure). Be sure to include all three and label each one.
Participants. The participants subsection should describe how participants were obtained for the study, how many, age, ethnicity/race, any incentives offered and any other information that would help the reader understand the sample. Include APA ethical treatment of participants statement and source here.
Materials. The materials/apparatus subsection includes a description of the questionnaires and/or materials used in the study. Indicate whether the questionnaires were developed for the study or previously created by other researchers and cite accordingly. Provide examples of the types of questions used if appropriate and the scales that were used for each.
Procedure. The procedure subsection includes a thorough description of the design and procedures which were used in the study. Be very accurate and include everything you did in the experiment. Carefully describe each step of the study in the order it was completed.
Results (approx. 1 page – 10 points)
The results section should present your analyses in terms of your hypotheses and provide enough data to support your conclusions. Report the appropriate statistics and indicate whether or not your results were significant (a summary table or figure should be included). Be sure to report the statistics in the correct format. For example, t(24)=5.42,p=.02or r(28)=.12,p=.07.
Discussion (at least 2 pages – 10 points)
The discussion elaborates on the implications of the results. Begin by summarizing the goals of the research, hypotheses, and then move into describing your predicted findings. Discuss the limitations of the predicted results, their generalizability, consistency with previous findings, implications for theory development, practical significance, and possible future plans.
References (10 points)
Your paper should include at least 10 sources. Carefully follow APA style in references. ALL of the publications cited (and only those cited) in the paper must be included in a reference section at the end. At least 8 sources must be journal references. In total, you must include 10 sources. Please keep your complete journal articles, I may ask for them to verify sources. Include doi if available.
Author, I. (date). Title of the journal article. Title of the Journal, volume number, pages. Author, I. (date). Title of the book. Place of publication: Publisher.
Appendices (5 points)
Include copies of the questionnaires used, consent form, debriefing statement, and other materials used in the experiment which provide further clarification of the research method. If the study was conducted online, then a link to the survey where materials can be viewed will suffice. The final datafile must also be included (students can include the SPSS datafile as a separate file attachment). Follow APA guidelines.
