Technology and Health Paper:
Topic: Social Media on Mental Health
This assignment allows you the opportunity to discuss how technology (including social media)
impacts and influences our health in supportive and challenging ways. Get visual with this
assignment and include links and citations. Choose something meaningful to you and include
cultural considerations.
Length: 4 pages double-spaced APA
Sources: Cite at least 4 peer-reviewed sources
Steps to completion
Begin to research your topic – use peer reviewed websites and journal articles
Include the following in your write-up:
An overview of your topic – what do we know already, any relevant data, facts
Based on our class discussions and your own research, describe the impact of this
technology on health today and in the future.
Provide specific examples of benefits or challenges
Include any charts or figures showing data
What is happening with this technology now?
What is predicted for the future?
Identify any cultural considerations – are some impacted by this technology more than
others?
Does everyone have access – why or why not?
As a closing paragraph and the only place to write in first person – Talk about how this
technology related to your future work, family, or yourself.
Second Assignment:
Behavior Change Project
Fill out worksheet and complete paper
Topic: Drinking more water
(I don’t drink enough water and I am often dehydrated which affects my daily life because it makes me not feel good. For example I get dizzy and I’m always tired)
These are the steps to complete your behavior change project. The success of your project is
not evaluated based on whether or not you reach your goal for change, rather on the steps of
the process.
Complete the SMART goal worksheet in the Blackboard assignments tab.
Determine how you will track your behavior related data, options include:
Create your own
Use an existing and free app
Collect a week of baseline data before implementing any changes – it’s important to know
where you are starting.
Once you collect the week worth of baseline data, begin implementing your behavior change,
very much leaning into the SMART goal worksheet.
How will you reward yourself when you meet or move toward your goal? Be specific about the
reward – we’ll talk more about this in class.

Your tracking system – this might be an old-school spreadsheet you create or a few screen
captures and a link to the app you used.
-3 pages, double spaced including each of the following:
Write about your challenges, successes, social support systems, what surprised you about the
