THEATRICAL NARRATIVE ENTRY INSTRUCTIONS
Theatrical Narrative EntryInstructions
The goal of this assignment is to create a narrative by assembling image, media, and text into a cohesive storyline.
The Theatrical Narrative is created in three sections and submitted as three separate journals
As you read “Steal Like An Artist,” I want you think about your own creativity and whether you consider yourself an artist. As you read Chapters 4&6 of the textbook, I want you to think about how narrative is EVERYWHERE. That’s where the Theatrical Narrative comes in. You’re going to practice “stealing like an artist” to create our own narrative. There is no wrong way to do this as long as you commit to the process and explore your creativity.
Step A
Watch Austin Kleon’s 10-minute Ted Talk about “Steal Like an Artist.”

TEDx Talk: Steal Like An Artist

Step B
Begin to assemble your narrative elements as Entry #1.
Entry #1
Choose a classical painting, sculpture, or photograph that excites you. If you have a favorite artist or genre, start there. Do not limit yourself to a realistic piece of art. Salvador Dali, Monet, Georgia O’Keeffe, or any art that piques your curiosity, are great choices.
Many museums offer free online access to their art, or do an internet image search.

Once you have selected a piece of artwork, paste it into a Word document. Then let the artwork suggest the first three narrative elements:
Stasis
Disturbance or Intrusion
Major dramatic question
Add a 250 word description of these first three steps.
