The use of structured interviews (e.g., the ECST-R, MacCAT-CA) to guide an evaluation has been controversial in FMHA. Select a particular forensic assessment domain (e.g., competence to stand trial, insanity, child custody) and discuss the available structured interviews for use. What are the strengths and weaknesses of incorporating such an approach? What conclusions are available in the research literature that suggest whether there is a definitive tool that supersedes all others, or whether such use is generally contraindicated?
