1. Select a quantitative research article (this is extremely important. Please do not use an opinion article, another non-research article, or a qualitative study. (You can choose Language barrier in healthcare and how it affects patient care)
2. Appraise the article critically
Introduction
• Introduce the title of the article, why it was selected, and the topic of the research.
• Describe the type of research utilized in the article (Qualitative, experimental/quasi-experimental, Correlational, Descriptive).
• Describe when and where the research was conducted.
• Utilize a thesis statement for the paper.
Research Problem and Purpose
• Why is the problem significant to nursing?
• How did the study problem and purpose generate or refine knowledge for nursing practice?
Literature Review/Introduction
• How current is the literature review?
• How does the literature review provide rationale and direction for the study?
• Was a clear, concise summary presented of the current empirical and theoretical knowledge in the area of study? Why or why not?
Study Framework
• What was the framework/theoretical basis of the study?
• What nursing theory was utilized for this study?
• If a content map or model was presented, was it adequate to explain the phenomenon of concern?
• If a proposition from a theory was tested, was the proposition clearly identified and linked to the study hypotheses?

Evaluation of Findings

• When the findings are examined with previous studies, what is now known and not known about the study variables?

Conclusion
• Does the author indicate the implication of the findings for practice?
• What are the implications of the findings for nursing practice?
• Final thoughts on what was learned from the study.
