So, I’m currently enrolled in a course called Women, Art, and Society. Course Descriiption from the syllabus to get an idea of what it is about: This course proposes a re-examination of a variety of issues concerning women, art, and society from a transcultural perspective. It will focus specifically on food and its practices through a selection of artworks of and mostly by women from different geographies, as well as through an analysis of art historical and critical texts. Food is a crucial element in our life, it deeply connects ideas of private and domestic spaces with those of collective spaces and society. Every week the course will focus on a specific theme, spanning across historical periods, yet mostly focusing on modern and contemporary art, to understand the complex relationship between art history, gender, and the role of food-related practices. This course addresses questions such as: How do artistic productions express the relationship between women and food? How have women artists represented dinners and eating? What are the spaces and tools which women use for cooking and eating, and how do they relate to art? What is the role of women in preserving food making and its practices? How does food carry gender and cultural connotations in art? What roles does food have in feminist art? The course aims at (1) deepening student’s knowledge and understanding of art history and women through the study of specific content, theories and methods; (2) creating an experiential and individualized approach to the course contents and materials by producing a research essay and a related short video to bring in students’ own understanding and experience of women, food, its practices (from family history and recipes to eating), tools and spaces.
I will attach a PowerPoint presentation I did during class. And this is the written feedback I got on it.
“You chose a relevant work to discuss eating disorders in contemporary art. You provide a good visual analysis of the work, and I encourage you to provide some info about the artists, look more carefully at the details in this complex work, and reflect on them in your written submission. The connection with the reading was mentioned though something more specific would be better showing how your thinking for this work can related to current scholarship on the topic.
So now I have to write an essay on the topic of eating Disorders and art. The essay is a development of my presentation in class NOT ITS SCRIPT. Make sure this shows that you have understood the feedback provided and worked on it.
This needs to comply with the academic expectations of language, presentation, and referencing/citations.
