You’ve been told that there is a gentleman who would like to see you concerning his sister who is a patient in the hospital. You invite the gentleman into your office. He states that he has a concern about his sister’s care at which point you invite the nursing supervisor on the appropriate floor to come to your office to join the conversation explaining to the gentleman that you were asking her to attend because you would like total clarity concerning what is occurring on the floor itself. He agrees. When the nursing supervisor arrives. The gentleman begins to enumerate his concerns. They are as follows:
1. His sister is in a Coma. She has aids. She is single and has two adult daughters. The provider responsible for her care has assessed the situation and is going to discharge her to a nursing home. He does not want her to be discharged and is asking you to stop the process.
2. He would like you to assist him in getting power of attorney. As he states that he is the only family member who cares about his sister.
