Review the information available on the EPA webpage from the links below regarding the Massport Logan International Airport Final NPDES Permit, that was issued to allow the airport to discharge stormwater to the Boston Harbor.
Part of compliance with stormwater regulations includes the development of a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP).
A SWPPP is a site-specific, written document that:
1. identifies potential sources of stormwater pollution at the facility;
2. describe stormwater control measures that are used to reduce or eliminate pollutants in stormwater discharges from the facility; and
3. identifies procedures the operator will use to comply with the terms and conditions of the stormwater permit.
The SWPPP is required to be specific to the conditions at the site.
Consider an airport of similar size to Massport Logan International Airport that also has an ongoing major construction project (disturbing more than 5 acres).
Identify and discuss at least two potential sources of stormwater pollution that might be found at the airport or construction site that should be addressed in the respective SWPPP. In addition, describe control measures that should be used to reduce or eliminate stormwater pollutants from each of those chosen sources of pollution.
