I. Project Goal
Goal: The objective of this project is an effort to use Statistics in your daily work activities or areas of interest. It is an applied Statics project. The idea is for each student to collect his/her own data (It could be data used at work, data used at home or any familiar area of activity) and apply statistical concepts to it and draw conclusions about data that can be relevant to his/her life of work or areas of interest.
II. Project Approach Methodology:
a. Gather/Collect data in areas of work activity or of interest (No need to spend money to collect data, use what you have). Data collection is open ended, that is, student can add to his/her data set if she/he chooses to do so up to the end of the project.
b. Discuss principles used to collect your data by using data sampling concepts studied in class.
c. Describe data using class descriptive statistics concepts.
d. Apply concepts of frequency, measure of central tendency, data variability, data distribution, data estimation, hypothesis analysis, regression analysis etc… whenever applicable. Creativity in use of the concepts will be rewarded.
e. Project tasks completed are to be summarized in a power point presentation report.
f. Opportunity will be given you to present your work. The idea is to present your work so that somebody not familiar with your line of work or area of interest will understand what you are doing.
g. PowerPoint presentations are due to instructor by due date indicated on the Syllabus.
