Paper #2 solely focuses on the methodology that you would carry out if you were to implement a futures studies project. It is based on the background information that you provided in Paper #1. To prepare to write this paper, please refer to the readings and lecture presentation from Week 5 and Week 6 on Methods of Futures Studies. For this paper, you will be required to write about 1,500-2,000 words. Paper #2 should identify and define the type(s) of Futures Studies Methods that you would employ in your study based on Paper #1: Background. Specifically, your paper should include the following: Title Page Title of your paper Your name Title of the Class Name of the professor Date of your Assignment Abstract A brief summary of your entire study that briefly identifies the aim or objective, methods, results, and conclusions—in that order. The abstract gives the highlights of your work, with only the briefest background information. For more information on writing the abstract, read: Abstract vs Introduction: What’s the difference? Introduction Remind your readers the topic of your paper, why it is important, and identify what you will discuss in your paper. Using each of the Futures Studies Methods In between the introduction and conclusion of your paper, you will have four separate sections that define, describe, and discusses each of the futures methods that we discussed during Weeks 5 and 6. This includes the following Futures Methods: Environmental Scanning Note: You’ve already done environmental scanning for the first paper. After providing the definition of environmental scanning, describe the process that you used to conduct an environmental scan. Questions to think about when writing this section: What kinds of information did you find? When you conducted your search what were some of the key words that you used? What logic did you use in order to find trends about the issue? Did working in groups on a team help you? Delphi Method Issues Management Emerging Issues Analysis Explain how you would use each method in your study if you were to carry it out. For instance, what aspect of your paper do you wish to study further and why? How will the Futures Studies Methods that you choose help you to further examine your questions? Make sure to end your paper by briefly summarizing the purpose and main points of your paper. Don’t forget to include your reference list. While this paper will require you to think “outside the box,” you must still have at least 3 quality sources.
