1. State the rule that teachers share with students.
2. Explain the rule.
3. Discuss how the students inappropriately overgeneralize the rule.
4. Provide examples that prove when the rule is not true (i.e., it expires).
5. State the date or point when the rule begins to fall apart for many learners.

For this assignment, choose any 10, except for rule 3 of the “13 rules that expire” and do the following.

b. Identify the mathematics that children learn that causes that “rule” to fall apart (i.e., expire).
For example,

b. This rule expires then students begin to work with negative numbers. For example, the subtraction problem, 5 – 10, does not make sense when restricted to whole numbers, but makes sense when working with integers.
