n your essay, (1) identify and describe a global public issue of your own choosing, (2) explain how the public global issue affects the private lives of individuals two different nations or regions of the world, (3) identify which of the major sociological perspectives we learned about in class best applies to this situation, and (4) explain why this perspective best applies to the situation using key terms associated with the perspective.
There are many directions you can go in answering this question. Certainly, you could talk about media narratives from a Conflict Theory perspective, or a Symbolic Interactionist perspective (definition of the situation – social construction of reality), or Global Climate Change from a Conflict Theory Perspective (who fights against climate science and supports myths for financial gain), you can talk about globalization from one of these perspectives or talk about World Systems Theory or Dependency Theory. A discussion on othering and genocide also easily fits into a frame of Conflict Theory, or dehumanization as a form of Symbolic Interactionism. Pick a topic you care about, and us it to apply a theory. Make sure you tie it to both public and private. A global issue that effects individuals in their private lives.
