Instructions
In this paper, you will use Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart to write a 3–5 page paper answering ONE of the following questions. While this is a novel, it provides us with a side of the story of the colonization of Africa that has tended to get ignored: the complexities of African cultures and identities.
What point is Chinua Achebe trying to make about African identities? What problems does he outline and what solution does he offer?
What role does religion play in this novel? What might this tell us about the broader colonization of Africa?
How do the story’s themes relate to the plot and characters? How can these help us understand the broader colonization of Africa?
A well-constructed essay answer will provide an argument in the introduction, evidence, analyzes that evidence, responds to all parts of the question, and has a conclusion.
