Students are required to compose a 4-5 page research paper (1,000–1,250 words), discussing the roots and foundations of systems and systems thinking. To begin the research discussion, students should refer to the assigned articles (located in Canvas) and Chapter 4 in W. W. Burke’s Organization Change: Theory and Practice (located in Canvas). This specific chapter will set a foundation of research and allow the necessary entrée into the literature.
Papers should include the following:
An overview of systems theory, including its foundation, definition, and acknowledgement of leading scholars.
An overview of systems thinking. What does it mean to be a system’s thinker?
The internal and external factors that influence the organizational system and that may serve as barriers to change.
The impact systems thinking can have on organizations in relation to change.

In addition to using the assigned course readings (Burke and others), a minimum of 3 additional academic journal articles must be referenced and properly cited in the body of the paper.
You will include an Annotated Bibliography as your Reference page for this assignment. Your Annotated Bibliography should include a minimum of 6 sources that are properly cited using APA formatting with the annotation under each citation. Popular press texts and widely cited Internet sources (i.e., Wikipedia) will not be accepted as reliable outside sources.
Annotated Bibliography Overview
As a reminder, an Annotated Bibliography is list of book, journal, and article citations (in proper APA format) followed by a brief descriptive and evaluative summation of the text (approximately 150 words per citation). The purpose of the annotation is to inform the reader of the relevance and quality of the read information. It is not an opinion statement. The brief summation will include key themes discussed in the text and a critical response to the validity and usefulness of the content, and information about the author(s).
