Directions. Write at least a 300 word response/essay for ONE of the following assignment options.

Option 1. Explore the National Center for Education Statistics at http://nces.ed.gov

Once at the site, enter the word ‘homework’ in the search box at the top right hand corner. Review the returned results and select an article that discusses time spent on homework. After reading the article, do you agree or disagree with the findings of the article. Why? How much homework do you think is appropriate for children of various ages? Be sure to list the citation info for the article that you read.

*Check out the kid zone. What was your favorite component of the kidszone? (Please do not forget to include this with your response to the assignment!)

Option 2. Explore alternative schooling options for Children.

Did you know that Home Schooling is on the rise? Did you know that private schools are available, but how much do they really cost? Were you aware that there are online schools that children can attend like a charter school (they are public schools)? Are the social aspects really a concern in today’s world of teams, clubs, recreational activities, and other groups in which kids are involved?
Look at at least two different types of education for children and comment on what you find. A brief summary of each is fine, or you can compare and contrast the two. You could even compare and contrast each with typical public schools. Have fun with it! Be sure to include all websites that you visit and utilize in your assignment (a minimum of two are required).
