INSTRUCTIONS:
Begin by creating an APA formatted title page for this assignment as seen in the Sample Argument Research Essay.
Using the sample, create an introduction paragraph, with an attention-grabber, background information, and thesis statement based on the stance written in the proposal. Please review the edapt concepts from Weeks 1–4 and the introduction paragraph in the Sample Argument Research Essay to understand how to write a strong introduction paragraph.
Write one full body paragraph with at least one resource. Begin with a transition and topic sentence. Your paragraph content will vary based on where it will go in your essay. You might begin with additional background information if needed or develop one point to prove your thesis. You might write one of your opposition and rebuttal body paragraphs. Again, the structure of your essay and topic will guide your body paragraphs’ content. Review the edapt lesson on outlining an argument in Week 3. Also, look at the first body paragraph in the Sample Argument Research Essay to help.
Compose your conclusion paragraph. It should offer an overview of the essay’s thesis without repeating it, followed by an impactful look at how the topic and argument fit into a bigger context. Please review the edapt concept from Week 4 specifically covering conclusion writing along with the Sample Argument Research Essay to understand how to write a strong concluding paragraph.
Include a Reference Page and proper APA citations. Create a properly formatted APA reference page including all scholarly resources used in the assignment. Provide in-text citations and parentheticals within the assignment to cite resource information. Again, use the Sample Argument Research Essay to understand the required formatting. Also, see the APA handbook for information on writing references and in-text citations properly.

Base paper off this subject: Cultural festivals and celebrations
Previous work already done that the paper needs to be based on:
State your stance within the debate you chose, without using “I.” (1 sentence)
Cultural celebrations are important within the United States to allow freedom of expression within one’s culture without the fear of being discriminated against.
B. Why is your stance a good one for an argument research essay? (at least 3 sentences)
This is a good stance for an argumentative essay because people of all cultures must be free to express their pride in their culture. They also should be allowed to celebrate or express their culture in ways that allow dignity and not shame. We are a country that has prided itself on being a melting pot for immigrants yet shame some cultures for certain practices or expressions of culture.
C. Who might disagree with your stance and why? (at least 3 sentences)
I need to do research on who would disagree with my stance on the issue. I would argue that people who aren’t accepting of immigrants or people coming to the U.S. and trying to instill other practices would disagree with my stance on the issue.
D. Who do you imagine your audience will be? (at least 2 sentences)
I imagine my audience will be people who are interested in cultural celebrations and why they are important. People who would like to oppose the subject may also be interested in reading a research paper on why they are important.
II. In a full paragraph of 7-9 sentences, and without performing any research, please note what you already understand about the debate and what you do not already understand about the debate:
I know that in the United States we are considered the melting pot, meaning we have many different cultures, religions and practices that have immigrated here. We claim to be the land of the free, however sometimes that statement just isn’t true. I have personally witnessed people being discriminated against because of their skin color or what they looked like and what they believed in or practiced. I would like to learn a lot more as to why people automatically profile someone upon looking at them instead of learning about that person. I am curious to learn about the many different celebrations that do take place in the many different cultures and why people do practice what they practice.
III. Shortly, you will begin scholarly research in the library. This research will help you find opposing viewpoints (sources that disagree with you) and supporting viewpoints (sources that agree with you), as well as information to fill in missing gaps in knowledge you may have. With all three of these goals in mind, please list five possible search phrases you might use when you begin searching in the library.
