For this assignment, you will run a selective attention experiment, and collect and interpret your own data.
You will first obtain up to 6 points by running the Zaps experiment “Selective Attention” and answering questions from the Learning Check. Then, you will obtain up to 24 points by writing up and submitting a Research Essay on this experiment.
Note that we do not give feedback on whole drafts of the essay before submission, however we can answer questions, and give you feedback on specific sentences or paragraphs.
ZAPS EXPERIMENT (6 pts)
Please run yourself through the Zaps experiment “Selective Attention”. Use Google chrome to open up Zaps, since other web browsers may not work. In this experiment you will test your own spatial selective attention as it is guided by visual cues.
Please read the Zaps experiment instructions carefully, and then run the experiment. You will be presented with a few trial conditions, depending on whether there is a valid, neutral or invalid cue about where the target will appear. After running yourself on the experiment please review the Results table, Discussion and do the Learning Check, before writing up your research essay. You are now ready to work on your paper!
