I have completed steps 1-4
Data Analysis Project
You will use an external data set to evaluate your hypothesis on a related HIM topic of your choice.
Step 1
Select a large data set. The assignment has several sources for data. Turn in your data dictionary for your raw data set.
Step 2
Develop a hypothesis. We will work on refining your hypothesis together.
Remember your hypothesis does not need to be proven correct. Give it your best guess as to the outcome you may find or that you believe.
Step 3
Using your data dictionary, classify each data element type/category.
Step 4
Establish criteria for data mining:
Most likely you will not need all of the data in your raw data.
Focusing on your hypothesis mine out records to use for analysis.
Remember not to remove columns of data, only rows that identify the cases that apply to your hypothesis.
Step 5
Performing data mining using the criteria established:
Make sure that you are not deleting anything out of your raw data.
Copy your mined records into a new sheet or workbook.
You must have a sufficient sample size for your hypothesis.
Step 6
Perform descriptive statistics:
Using the data elements type/category to help you determine the type of descriptive statistics that can be performed.
You must have at least one of each category: nominal, ordinal, interval, and ratio.
You must have at least one of each type: discrete and continuous.
You must have at least one of each measure of central tendency: mean, median, mode, range, variation, standard deviation, and frequency distribution.
You must have at least one bell curve.
You must identify your distribution as normal or another type.
Step 7
Develop Graphics:
You need to develop graphics to represent your data.
Only 1 pie chart is allowed.
Step 8
Perform inferential statistics to test your hypothesis:
Based on your descriptive statistics, determine at least one inferential statistics test for your hypothesis.
Step 9
Benchmark results with external data sources:
You can compare your data results with other research results or government website data.
Make sure you are comparing apples to apples.
Step 10
Formulate your conclusion
Summarize your data results
Explain your hypothesis – Did you accept or reject the null hypothesis?
What questions arose during the process?
Were there limitations to your data set? What were they?
What further research is needed?
Step 11
Create a PowerPoint file, Infographic, or Research Poster of your research. Include all the elements above. Use good design principles.
Step 12
Present your research. Create a recorded presentation that is shared with your classmates.
You completed a research project! Congratulations!
