There are two positions to choose here: YES: means the Constitution requirements are sufficient and should not be changed NO: means the Constitutional requirements are not sufficient and should be changed to include the new requirement or requirements that you will suggest. There is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ answer here. Your score fully depends on how effectively you argue for change or for keeping the requirements as they are now. Procedure for this assignment: Before you pick a side and write your persuasive essay: FIRST: list by bullet points the Constitutional requirements for the office of the U.S. president SECOND: choose five countries in which the heads of state (president, prime minister, etc.) are chosen by a vote of the people. In separate, bullet-pointed format, list the countries and ALL of their requirements. Some countries will have more requirements than others. No paragraphs or blocks of type here. You must make a strong and persuasive argument in support of your position on why they should be kept as they are. You must also present the counter-argument. That is, in defending your position you must address the weaknesses of the existing qualifications. You must thoroughly justify the keeping of the current constitutional requirements as they are. Do not say dumb things such as they should all be kept because they’re perfect just the way they are. This will get you a score of zero. Do not even use the word ‘perfect’ anywhere in your essay, or you will get a zero. In detail, you must explain the rationale for why the qualifications for the most powerful human on earth should remain unchanged. If you pick ‘NO’ that the qualifications for the U.S. president are not sufficient, then you must explain why they are not sufficient. You must make a strong and persuasive argument in support of your position on why the requirements should change. And then you need to list the changes that you would make. Your choices: You may change all of the original requirements You may keep all the original requirements and add to this list You may keep some of the original requirements and add to this list You may change all of the original requirements and add more requirements. For whatever position your choose, you must argue rationally and persuasively to support your position. Do not say dumb things like the requirements should change because they’re ridiculous and leave it there. This will get you a score of zero. BEFORE you begin your essay, that the qualifications for president should change, you must write a bullet-pointed list of changes Change one: from what to what? Change two: from what to what? Change three: from what to what? Change four, etc. There is no limit on changes, just support these changes. FOLLOW THIS FORMAT EXACTLY. YOU MUST PUT A BULLET POINT.
