Due: Sunday, November 19 at midnight
A bibliography is a list of sources (books, journals, Web sites, periodicals, etc.) one has used for researching a topic. Bibliographies are sometimes called “References” or “Works Cited” depending on the style format you are using. A bibliography usually just includes the bibliographic information (i.e., the author, title, publisher, etc.).
An annotation is a summary and/or evaluation.
An annotated bibliography includes a summary and/or evaluation of each of the sources and gives you the opportunity to sort through and think about how you might use your sources. As you conduct your research, you will cite, summarize, and project how you might use each source. The Annotated Bibliography will also help you organize your information as you begin writing your paper.
The format for citation/annotation is APA. Refer to OWL Purdue for details on citing sources.
Assignment
Compile the start of your Critical Essay research into an APA-style annotated bibliography.
Your annotated bibliography should include:
Four scholarly resources
For each resource:
Cite your source using APA formatting
Provide a summary: Identify the points of the text that are relevant to your project. What are the main arguments? What is the point of this book or article? What topics are covered? If someone asked what this article/book is about, what would you say? The summary should be unbiased—simply tell me what the source is about without adding your opinion.
Provide a plan: Once you’ve summarized and assessed a source, you need to ask how it fits into your research. How might you use this source in your paper? How does it help you shape your argument? Will it help support your argument? Will it help establish an opposing view to which you will refute? Has it changed how you think about your topic? Use this space to project the role the source will play.
*Your purpose in writing this assignment is to prove to your audience (myself) that you have thoroughly read and that you understand the information within your sources and how it applies to your argument. Therefore, your summary and plan should include substantive critical thought and reflection. In total, your annotated bibliography should be roughly 2-3 pages in length (double-spaced).
Remember to follow APA formatting, including hanging indentations and putting your sources in alphabetical order.
