Cognitive-enhancing drugs present significant ethical issues. We already have some chemicals that have well-documented cognitive boosting effects, but many of the existing chemicals are limited by side effects, including addiction, new or worsening psychiatric symptoms, cardiac effects, etc.
Imagine a future where some of these limitations have been worked out and these future Pro Cognitive Drugs become safer. Should such drugs be allowed to be used by college students? Children? Everyone? OR is there a parallel to the use of performance-enhancing drugs in athletics which are pretty strictly prohibited? What do you think?
