An ANALYTICAL JOURNAL is your place to reflect upon the material discussed in our lectures; it is your place to reflect upon the reading assignments, to ask questions about the issues they raise, to agree with the points to bring up, to challenge their ideas, to expand on them – to, in a word, THINK. The journal is also your place to practise your translation skills, to experiment rendering different short passages into your target language (English) and to expose you to a wide variety of texts.
any readings from Weeks 9 – 12. The most important thing is that you discuss and reflect upon three readings in each journal.
Grading: because this is a reflective journal, I will not be grading you based on how well you write, your grammar, etc., but rather on whether you have engaged with the reading assignments or not. Your language may be informal, it can be in English or Chinese. The structure of a journal entry should be, first, a summary of the reading assignments you have chosen to think about, then your own personal thoughts, questions, arguments, etc. There is no set word limit, but to demonstrate ‘thinking’ you will need more than a few sentences. Think of a paper abstract that is often about 250 to 300 words
