You are a lieutenant for the Adirondack County Sheriff’s Department. Your agency has recently had a death occur in your jail. You also have road patrols that are responsible for law enforcement in your county. The sheriff has asked you to examine liability issues that relate to wrongful custodial deaths and suicides that occur while in custody. Submit (as an attachment) a two to three page memo that identifies and describes policies and training issues that are related to wrongful custodial deaths and suicides that occur while in custody. Remember, “in custody” does not only apply to the jail setting. It can also mean an arrest on the side of the road. Don’t forget to cite in-text and list your references on a separate reference page. If you have never written or seen a memo, your Microsoft Word program will have many memo templates. Be sure to use one that is simple and professional looking (not flashy).
