Try to diversify your topics:
Person or Place: Suggest one 1-2 such topic(s):
Person/People: Speeches about historically/culturally significant person (dead or alive), or an ancient civilization and their contributions. Include why they are still relevant to us today.
Place: important because of its history, science, geo-politics, or tourism, etc.
Policy or Demonstration: Suggest 1-2
Suggest a “two sides of a controversy” topic (a topic on which you are open to both sides of the argument)
Suggest a demonstration topic, like the “Yoga” and “Using a tourniquet to save a life” speech video examples
Concept/Thing/Process: suggest 1-2
Could be many things: 3-D printing, gerrymandering, yoga, Ramadan, anti-trust laws, smart guns, self-driving cars, the opioid epidemic, fracking, oceans (warming, pollution, sea level rise), etc.
Please do not suggest the speech topics of “social media” or “mental health.” I’ve heard too many mediocre speeches on those broad topics in the past few years. Your topic needs to be narrower and more tangible. One cannot cover the entirety of those vague topics in a 5 minute speech, so be more specific in the topics you pick.
