We began the capstone unit by reading and discussing Carter’s article. With this assignment, we’ll further develop our knowledge of academic writing by examining the genres we write in.
For this assignment, start by representing either in a document or in a concept map (upload a picture if you do this on paper or a white board) of the genres we “write” in on a regular basis. I place “write” in quotations because we should also recognize those forms of writing which don’t necessarily seem like “writing,” such as writing mathematical equations for our math homework or creating graphics or figures in software. Try to be as comprehensive as possible in your mapping. Consider both courses you’re taking this semester and those you’ve taken in the past. Cluster these genres of writing in terms their relevance to your degree program.
