The topic was something in the broad area of RNA biology. Examples that I briefly discussed, which you do not need to restrict yourselves to, were non-standard roles of RNA e.g. as structural/function components of the ribosome and the spliceosome, gene regulation by RNA e.g. microRNAs and lncRNAs, alternative splicing e.g. the differential inclusion/exclusion of exons to produce different proteins from the same gene as seen in development and responses to the environment and epitranscriiptomics e.g. the chemical modification of RNA molecules, by writers, readers and erasers, to alter the properties of the RNA as exemplified by the recent Nobel prize in medicine.
