The second graded speech in this course is an informative speech that seeks to provide the audience with knowledge about an object, process, person(s), idea, or event. The choice of topic is up to you, although your topic must meet the following two criteria: it must be significant for all members of the audience. You may want to consider selecting as your topic a social problem about which to inform the audience, as the persuasive speech later in the semester will require a problem-solution topic and you may speak on the same problem in both the informative and persuasive speeches. The speech should reflect attention to the goals of enhancing understanding, maintaining listener interest, and encouraging information retention.
