Purpose
This assignment is a research paper on implicit bias and the Implicit Association Test (IAT). The purpose of this assignment is to better learn and understand implicit bias and the role it plays in perpetuating prejudice and racism. In order to better understand racism, we must increase awareness about the implicit biases we may have. For this research paper, you will have the experience of taking the Implicit Association Test (IAT), one of the most well-known tests for measuring implicit bias. You will get a chance to reflect and write about your experience and use text and other sources to cite information for your research paper.
Instructions
Go to Take the Implicit Association Test and take one of the following tests: Race IAT, Asian IAT, or Native IAT. (https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/takeatest.html)
You paper should be 2-3 pages long and must include 2 parts:
The FIRST part of your research paper should explain implicit bias, what it is, how it affects people and impacts society. Please explain implicit bias and provide some research on it. You must refer to at least 3 sources (books, videos, websites, news articles, etc.) and properly cite your sources using APA style and in-text citations (go back to the Writing Tutorial from the first week if you need a refresher).
The SECOND part is a reflection of your experience taking the IAT and research about the IAT. Again, go to Take the Implicit Association Test and take ONE of the following tests: Race IAT, Asian IAT, or Native IAT. (https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/takeatest.html) You may share your results if you wish, but it is not required and is fine if you do not wish to share. However, do reflect on your experience taking the IAT. You can write about how you think the IAT can be useful, or not, and what the research says about it.
